Overview

ResourceSpace was created in 2006 by Dan Huby and Neale Hall while contracting for the charity Oxfam, which released the resulting DAM software under an open-source license. Huby later founded Montala Limited, an employee-owned UK company that maintains ResourceSpace and hosts its managed cloud service.

Because the core product is open source, organizations can self-host ResourceSpace for free with no per-user license fees, or choose Montala's managed cloud hosting for a fully supported experience.

Key Features

ResourceSpace covers the core DAM workflow: upload, tag, search, and control access to images, video, and documents, with metadata schemas, custom fields, watermarking, and usage rights tracking.

Paid cloud tiers add AI-assisted automatic tagging, face detection, and natural-language search, plus SSO, API access, SFTP drop folders for bulk ingest, and public access portals for external sharing.

Pricing

Self-hosting ResourceSpace is completely free with no license cost or user limits. A free cloud tier offers 10GB of storage for up to 10 users.

Paid cloud hosting runs from around $358/month (Team Cloud, 25 users) up to around $1,357/month (Enterprise Cloud, 500 users), with a custom-quoted Platinum Cloud tier for unlimited users and 50TB-plus storage.
